{"id":5675,"date":"2024-03-14T12:52:36","date_gmt":"2024-03-14T17:52:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/springfieldorthodox.org\/?p=5675"},"modified":"2024-03-16T12:16:05","modified_gmt":"2024-03-16T17:16:05","slug":"a-handful-of-seeds-for-lent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/springfieldorthodox.org\/?p=5675","title":{"rendered":"A Handful of Seeds for Lent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Keep the fast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Reclaim silence by taking a break from virtual \u2018voices\u2019 \u2013 even Orthodox ones (TV, news, social media, games, podcasts, etc.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Read a chapter of the Gospels every day [for the rest of your life].<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Prepare and come to make confession.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Prepare and receive Holy Communion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Pray in the morning and the evening every day.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Add the prayer of St Ephraim to your prayers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Go without and use the spare resources to give something to someone else.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Delete all truly unnecessary apps from your phone for 40 days.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Prioritize going to services to pray.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Go through the closet or drawers or house and give away what is unnecessary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Give time just listening to someone who needs to talk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Keep the fast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Help someone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Help them again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Don\u2019t engage thoughts of the inner monologue\u2014especially of fear, anger, judgment, jealousy, selfishness, suspicion, etc.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Read the lives of the saints.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Clean your icon corner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Read a little bit from the Scriptures and\/or a spiritual book each day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Meet the material needs (give alms) of someone you know is in need.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Set aside unnecessary\u00a0appointments or engagements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Offer to Christ each day a small gift from the heart: a small action or abstention that is done specifically, and secretly if possible, for his sake only.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Keep the fast.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Keep the fast.
